Richard has specialized in employee benefits since graduating from the University of Michigan (AB – Economics) in 1986. After beginning his career with The Equitable Financial Companies as a registered representative, he joined a national consulting firm (now known as AON) for five years where he was responsible for managing health and welfare, retirement, and compensation issues for large employers. During his 24 years with Brown & Brown of Detroit, Richard has provided proactive cost, administrative and communication strategies to employers of all sizes. He is an expert in self-insurance and currently leads the Large Group Practice in Sterling Heights. Richard was a shareholder of the firm from 1999 until 2007 when it was acquired by Brown & Brown.
Richard has represented Brown & Brown of Detroit on the agent advisory councils of several insurance carriers, including Humana, Care Choices, Priority Health, Action Benefits (a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Managing General Agent) and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Statewide Agent Advisory Council. He was also a member of the Detroit Regional Chamber Business Group on Health. Richard is a student of the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist program, having achieved the Group Benefit Associate (GBA) designation, and a member of the Metropolitan Detroit Association of Health Underwriters (MDAHU) and the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU). He is also a Licensed Insurance Counselor.
